Healthy lunch box ideas

It can be so difficult to know what to put into your child’s lunchbox so that it is healthy and good for them but also that they enjoy the food inside. It can at times seem much easier to fill it up with things that are sugary, filled with additives and already prepared for you.

You might not feel like you know many healthy foods to put in the lunchbox, after all – fruit and vegetables would get boring for your child day after day, but you can easily add a little extra to these foods. Good food is so important, children need to fuel their body with vitamins and minerals. It is a well known fact that healthy food will make a child perform so much better academically than those who eat junk. I am going to talk you through some tasty but healthy lunch box ideas and also some ways in which you can save time and be a little more organized in the kitchen.

Lunch box ideas and tips
It would be a great idea to get your child a lunchbox that have different sections in it. This way you can separate the main part of their lunch, from their sweet and savory snack, to avoid any yoghurt flavored sandwiches! Do a little plan at the beginning of the week so that you know what you are going to put in your child’s lunch box and on what days. Make and prepare the food together also, freezing anything that it is safe to and then defrosting it later. Try and have enough variety so that you can alternate slightly but not so much that it is going to be difficult for you. Most children will be happy with 2/3 lunch box foods that they absolutely love, rather than lots that just feel like they have been thrown together. Have all lunch box ingredients, whether they are stored or refrigerated, stored together correctly. Little zip bags are ideal for keeping things fresh and having fruit and vegetables prepared can save so much time when you are putting the lunch box together. This, along with the meal planner may sound a little excessive but it is necessary to get some organisation into preparing your child’s lunch box and doing it well.

For the main section of your child’s lunch; a sandwich, wrap, a pot of pasta or salad would be perfect. Some tasty and healthy fillings for the wraps and sandwiches are chicken, turkey or tuna with salad and a little dressing. If your child does not eat meat, then some cheese or egg sandwiches would be a great alternative. Don’t forget to mix it up so they are not eating the same thing every day. With regards to pasta, you can make a big batch and freeze some to use again and again. A whole number of ingredients and dressings can be added depending on what is easiest and what your child likes. You can even give your child leftover dinner from the night before in their lunchbox, this could be anything from noodles, to a variety of light meals and nibbles.

Let’s get onto what snacks to put in your child’s lunchbox. This will vary depending on their taste but there is a big variety out there. Boiled eggs are filling and easy to make, they are also an item that can be made in batch and used when you need them. You can’t go wrong with some chilled yoghurt or jello either. A great tip is to freeze some grapes or berry’s and put them in your child’s lunch box in the morning. By lunch time, they will have thawed enough to be eaten, but they will still be chilled; these are super yummy for those summer months especially. Some of the healthier type biscuits and cereal bars are also an option to give your child. Cut up carrot sticks are a great snack with some dips, you can make whatever dips you want – hummus, mayonnaise or chilli are just a few choices for you.

I hope that you will have got something for these lunch box ideas and that they make preparing your child’s lunch, a little easier.

Kit Homes Compared to Turnkey Homes

There is a major difference between kit homes and turnkey homes. Kit homes are built by an owner builder, one who wishes to build their own home. Whereas turnkey homes are built by professionals, so that the client does not need to be involved with the hundreds of steps and processes involved with building a new home. ”Turnkey” simply means that you, the client, can go to your brand new home, walk up to the beautiful front door and simply turn the key!

The process to become an owner builder is much more complicated than one might think. For instance, it’s a requirement of the Building Services Authority (BSA) that anyone who wishes to build or renovate their own home and spend over $11,000 must hold an owner builder permit, and these permits are only issued by the Building Services Authority once you’ve completed an owner builder course. The permits expire every 6 years.

Here are a few of the processes involved with building your own kit home; legal requirements, site preparation, footings and floors, wall construction, roof construction, windows and frames, doors, screens, wall finishes, ceilings, fixtures, plumbing, gas, electrical, draining, and then some landscaping to top it all off.
If you don’t have experience in all of these areas, building your own kit home could prove to be more challenging than you may think, especially tackling all the council codes, regulations and legal requirements!

Tips for Kids Parties

Parties for children have come a long way in recent times with more options, more expectations and more expense placed on an annual event that runs for 2-3 hours. Involved in the kids party industry for over 15 years, I’ve seen every type of party from the informal backyard gathering to a veritable carnival with everything imaginable hired.

But don’t be daunted! A kid’s party doesn’t need a big budget or an event planner to be wonderful. Here are some great pointers to get the party started and the kids really enjoying themselves.

1. Stick with tradition. Kids love it when predictable elements are present, and if they are overlooked, it will not go unnoticed! Must-haves are: Food, birthday cake, and the all important Party Bag! If you’ve got these three things, you have the basics of party.

2. Things for the kids to do. There are innumerable options: Party games; hire an entertainer or activity or have it somewhere that will entertain the kids for you. The Golden Rule is: DON’T OVER-DO IT!

One or two sessions of entertainment are more than enough. The fact is, children are already being directed to eat now, cut the cake now, watch the gifts being opened now, etc etc.. When you throw in entertainers, activities and games, children may quickly become overwhelmed, and time whizzes by without the children having a chance to actually play.

3. Play time: This element should be the top party essential. Factoring time for the kids to run about, play, laugh and talk with one another is valuable. It suits children of all ages and capabilities, and -, it’s free!

4. Age-appropriate entertainment. This suggestion may seem like a no-brainer, however I have attended many parties that can have children feeling bored or bewildered. For example, hiring a magician-clown for two-year olds left most of the children terrified. Another example is a bowling party for four-year olds. The kids had no interest in being competitive and after just a few bowls, the excitement had seriously worn off. And even Pass-the-Parcel can cause distress when played with kiddies who are too young to know they haven’t missed out, they just have to wait their turn. If you are hosting a party for mixed ages and genders, there’s a broad range of entertainment that will appeal, such as jumping castles and balloon-twisting.

5. Relax! When planning a party, plan with your child and use your instincts – you know what they will enjoy most. On the day have a mini paper list so you don’t forget anything, like when to put the party pies in the oven or to hand out the party bags.

And most importantly, enjoy YOURSELF too…after all -it’s a party!

All the best!
